Business plan competitions from all over the world have modeled themselves on the MIT $100K Competition and the MIT $1K Business Idea Warm-up Competition. Participants exchange best practices and learn how to use a business plan competition for economic development, technological dissemination, innovation, and global entrepreneurship education.
In 1998, Lead Organizer Sally Shepard ?8, launched the MIT $50K GSW in response to the large volume of requests for assistance in establishing and planting other business plan competitions around the world. Since then, representatives of international government agencies, private companies, and universities from around the world gather every year to exchange success stories and discuss the unique challenges of running business plan competitions.
The goals of the MIT $50K GSW:
- Educate new organizing teams about business plan competition best practices and entrepreneurship.
- Build the global network of business and share best practices for business plan competitions among different regions.
- Provide a forum for exchanging ideas and transfer of knowledge.
- Bring participants up to date on the state of entrepreneurship in the GSW host country.
