Alumni and friends of MIT and Sloan participate in various projects for internships, continuing education, or simply for personal interest. From planning events and making contacts to conducting research projects and technical/industry analyses, E-Center volunteers gain valuable experience and meet important contacts and friends along the way.

These project enable you to be creative in finding ways to contribute your time and talent to the entrepreneurial life of the Institute, and get recognized for doing so.

MIT E-CENTER PROJECTS
Online Business Plan resource - 15.975 Course Website Redesign

• Timeframe: November 2002-January 2003
• Goal: To integrate resources for course 15.975, for the MIT $50K, and for business-plan writing in general.
• Volunteer to help the E-Center develop and launch the premier online business plan writing resource.
• Tasks: Content management, navigation conceptualization, HTML development, data collection, liasoning.

Biotech Map of Kendall Square

• Timeframe: Winter/Spring 2005
• Description: Update coordinates of all biotech companies in the Kendall Square cluster.
• Display on map to be published for MIT Entrepreneurship Center Biotech Celebration 2003 in Kendall Square.
• Build database of biotech contacts for the E-Center.

INDUSTRY PROJECTS
In addition to projects at the E-Center, many local high-tech start-ups often come to us with short-term projects. These include but are not limited to:

• Developing a plan for a new product, dialoguing with customers, determining market positioning, and conducting competitive analysis and performance specification.
• Refining business plans, marketing plans, and e-commerce strategies.
• Measuring and analyzing new vertical and horizontal market opportunities.
• Analyzing potential technology migration paths.
• Identifying channel partners.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS
Volunteering to work on various research projects is a good way to explore your fields of interest, receive faculty mentorship, and become a subject expert.

Match Process

Project proposals are submitted on-line. If accepted by the E-Center, the proposal will be posted to the site. Interested students will contact the E-Center, who will forward resumes and bios to sponsoring parties. If the project is for academic credit, it must be approved by the student's professor or faculty advisor. The sponsoring individual should act as a mentor to the student throughout the project and make available all necessary information. If the project is used for course work, the organization should be willing to share project background, methodology, and findings with faculty and students at MIT. It is the responsibility of the sponsoring organization to contact the E-Center when a project is no longer available. Projects will remain in our database for the current academic year.
