We are gathered together this evening to celebrate the biotech revolution and bear witness to the phenomenon of Kendall Square.
The combined mission of HST and the MIT E-Center is to support the entire life sciences development process from invention and discovery in the lab through to thoughtful patient delivery. Success means moving swiftly and seamlessly from bench to bedside.
We have over 850 registered guests; 150 are Founders, CEOs, or Board Members of their firms. Sixteen (16) are MIT professors. Several have either received the Nobel Prize or, I predict, will soon do so.
We will continue to hold this event in August because - as you can see - not everyone in the vibrant, dynamic, biotech community is on vacation.
Thank you all for honoring us with your presence this evening. One key takeaway, is that Robert Frost's maxim "Good fences make good neighbors" does not apply to the biotech community in the 21st century. Rather, all of us at MIT believe in active connections and teamwork with our friends and neighbors here in Kendall Square and beyond.
Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship go together like Rodgers and Hammerstein Boyer and Swanson. MIT and the biotech Community.
Each needs the other to achieve its full potential…to be great...to make a difference in the world.
