Transfer as a Team Effort: Perspectives on and Insights into Technology
Transfer
This event is designed to stimulate thought, discussion, and learning
about the different objectives and constraints of the various participants
in a technology transfer process. Our panel of experts will translate
this learning into opportunities for successful technology transfer. The
program will begin with an overview of the stages involved in technology
transfer, moving from idea to commercialization and identifying key decisions

FIRST ANNUAL HCT-MIT GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONFERENCE
Date: Saturday 20th - Sunday 21st March 2004
Theme: "Entrepreneurship 2010" Creating a Dynamic, Vibrant, Competitive Economy
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Entrepreneurs are the engines of the economy. National development occurs through entrepreneurship, and the success of the enterprise economy machine depends on the quality of its engine - that is, the process of allocating resources for the generation of productive and innovation-driven rather than rent seeking undertakings. Productive and innovation-driven enterprises constitute the army trained to fight on the ground of competition.
The international mobility of talented youngsters helps countries, regions, and other territorial communities to close their productivity gap since it promotes entrepreneurship-led innovation, thereby creating "nations of entrepreneurs" driven by creativity, initiative, risk taking, discipline and personal development.

07 November 2002 E-Lab CEO High Tech Networking Reception
Every semester, the MIT Entrepreneurship Center throws a bash to honor the CEOs of past and present E-Lab companies. We expect 250+ significant players in the venture community to attend this year's reception on 07 November 2002.
Since 1996, more than 350 start-up companies have offered internships to MIT students through the E-Lab program. A number of these companies, many of which originated at MIT, donate stock or cash funds to defray some of the costs associated with administering E-Lab. Their commitment to the program makes them a valuable source of contacts, information, resources, and job opportunities for students.
More on the E-Lab Network.
Past event sponsors have enjoyed high-impact, cost-effective, co-branded marketing at our events. Contact Anthony Ives if you would like to sponsor an MIT Entrepreneurship Center event in the future.

Charm School sold out both nights - Students pack Ken Morse's seminar on business etiquette.
The MIT Sloan community packed the Tang Center rooms two nights in a row for Ken Morse's 2nd Annual Charm School. Organized by students Guido Meardi, Stewart Brazil, and Michael Cann, in conjunction with the Career Development Office (CDO) and the MIT Entrepreneurship Center, the Charm School sessions grew out of a growing desire to improve the Sloan community's soft skills and reputation. The hiring climate has made the issues of personal presentation and effective networking more salient
today than in years past.
Ken Morse, E-Center Managing Director and Sloan Senior Lecturer, kicked off the sessions rallying the students (as "Sloan shareholders") to make a commitment to improve Sloan's reputation in the soft skills by making a conscious effort and being open to constructive criticism from peers. If successful, this would raise the value of their "shares" in the Sloan enterprise. He then gave very practical advice for writing thank-you notes, giving effective pitches, working a room as a team, and generally learning the skill of being low maintenance. Morse's philosophies behind his advice centered around the cultivation of empathy and the banishment of one's sense of entitlement.
If management is the game you play, you better know the rules.

New course in the NPVD: "Sales & Sales Force Management."
The entrepreneur must not only understand the sales process but also embrace the fact that the ability to sell is the
single most critical success factor of any new enterprise. This course does not approach sales from the vaunted
perspective of 'strategy'. It gets right into the very practical and tactical ins and outs of how to sell technical
products to a sophisticated marketplace. Then it moves into the more complex subject of how to build and manage a sales
force and covers subjects such as building compensation systems for a sales force, assigning territories, resolving
disputes, and dealing with channel conflicts.
Class Participation for this course is a requirement, in addition to several oral and written assignments. There will
not be a final exam. Each class will be 90 minutes long and will be broken into three parts: there will be a 30-minute
lecture on a specific aspect of sales or sales force management, a 30-minute discussion of either a business case or a
reading, and a 30-minute series of student presentations in front of the class.
Instructors: Howard Anderson, Tim Kraskey, Ken Morse
Class Dates: October 28 - December 11, 2002

Biotech fever hits Kendall Square and the MIT campus.
With Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research moving to Kendall Square, MIT and Kendall Square have been declared
to be the "Epicenter of the Biotech Revolution."
Over 600 CEOs and senior executives of biotech and related mature firms, start-ups, venture capital firms, and IP law
firms; MIT senior officers, faculty, students, and staff; and other members of the local biotech community all gathered
in the MIT Building E25 courtyard on Thursday 22 August 02 to "Celebrate Biotechnology in Kendall Square." The event
was co-hosted by the MIT Entrepreneurship Center and the newly established HST/MIT Sloan Biomedical Enterprise Program.
On campus, Sloan students have founded the Sloan BioStrategy Group which hosts a seminar series that explores the
intersection of biotechnology, entrepreneurship, and business development. Representatives of the biomedical industry
are invited to lead seminars focused on strategic issues in the field. The series aligns with and supports the
curriculum of the Biomedical Enterprise Program (BEP), which is part of the MIT-Harvard Medical School's joint program
in Health, Science and Technology (HST).
