How and when was the E-Center founded?
The Center was founded in 1990 with support of faculty leaders from
across the entire MIT Sloan School. It immediately took on an
Institute-wide charter with the appointment of an Advisory Board
consisting of distinguished MIT alumni entrepreneurs from all
departments, including Amar Bose '51 of Bose Corp., Ken Germeshausen
'31 of EG&G, Bernard Goldhirsh '61 of Inc. Magazine, George
Hatsopoulos '49 of ThermoElectron, Patrick McGovern '59 of
International Data Group, and Ken Olsen '50 of Digital Equipment
Corp. In its very first year the E-Center helped to organize and fund
the beginnings of the MIT $10K Business Plan Competition, which
became the $50K and then the $100K, and which has over the years
greatly contributed to launching hundreds of student entrepreneurs
from MIT.
