Details about your application to i-Teams: Application is by "permission of instructor” - the basic way it works is simple:

    • Apply on the student application part of this website – the deadline is September 2nd however we’ll accept applications for wait-list positions until the first day of class (Sept 9th). Wait-listed students will be invited to attend the first few classes, but won’t receive a firm decision until September 18th.

    • Within a week of your application you will be "conditionally accepted" (or notified if the class is full or you do not meet the enrollment criteria).

    • Once you have successfully applied at the web site, the TA will give you access to information about other students and about projects.  Use that information before classes begin to start forming your preferences.

    • Come to the first two class meetings (September 9th & 14th) where you will receive detailed information about the projects including PI presentations on September 14th.

    • With this information and the prior project information you will give us your top 3 project choices by Tuesday September 10th at noon.
    • We will then put together teams and by Wednesday September 16th let you know your project.

    • You have until the Thursday September 17th to accept or decline. If you decline and we cannot make a mutually acceptable selection you can decide to leave the class. If you accept, you are now formally accepted into the class. One caveat – once you accept, you then give up your right to later drop the class.

    • September 15th final project commitment.

Email us at i-teams@mit.edu if you have any further questions.

Additional Requirements

We receive more applications than we can accommodate. If you are accepted to this class, you will be taking a seat for which we will turn away other qualified applicants. Please be sure you want to take this class. In your application we will ask you to confirm that you agree to the following three requirements.

  1. Attend every class. Being present for your team is an essential part of the experience. As such, attendance at every class is critical. There is a brief “get acquainted” period that lasts until the second week of class. During this period, we will have wait-listed students attending. After that only registered students may attend. Please carefully review your schedule and make sure you have no conflicts, trips, conferences, job interviews, or other issues that might require you to miss class obligations.

  2. Enroll for credit. ou must be able to enroll in i-Teams for credit. Before applying, check with your advisor or department administrator to verify that you can add this class. You cannot audit the class. Occasionally students encounter troubles with exceeding the maximum allowable credit units, or with issues of cross-registration when visiting from other schools. We ask you to resolve these issues before you apply.

  3. Don’t dropYou will be given your specific project assignment on February 11th and we ask that you confirm your participation in the project by February 12th. At this point, you agree to not drop the class; your team, the PIs and the course instructors will be counting on you for the entire semester.
