The MIT Entrepreneurship Center Library consists of three separate personal collections of General Georges F. Doriot, Dan Holland, and Stanley E. Pratt. A complete listing of these collections is maintained in the Stan Pratt Library. Together the collections consist of over 1,500 items of primary source materials related to the venture capital industry.
The goal of the MIT Entrepreneurship Center is to offer MIT students, faculty and the general public access to the materials for educational and research purposes. Those interested in accessing the collection may do so by appointment only. Pratt Collection
The Pratt Collection at the MIT Entrepreneurship Center consists of documents, binders, publications, and books donated to the MIT Entrepreneurship Center by Stanley E. Pratt. The collection of reference books, publication archives, key correspondence and statements, presentations and reports document the successful and historical career of Stanley E. Pratt who is recognized as a leading authority on the venture capital industry.
Stanley E. Pratt was a founding General Partner of Abbott Capital Management and publisher and editor of Venture Capital Journal as well as Pratt’s Guide to Venture Capital Sources. A noted consultant and expert on the venture capital industry, he has advised major corporations, government agencies, Congress, and institutional investors throughout the world.
Doriot Collection
The Doriot Collection at the MIT Entrepreneurship Center is a partial collection belonging to Georges F. Doriot, consisting of books and documents on entrepreneurship, management, and venture capital. The collection is on loan from the French Library and Cultural Center of Boston.
General Georges Doriot came to be known as "the father of the venture capital industry." In 1946, he formed American Research & Development Corp. (ARD) with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and John Hancock Mutual Insurance Co. as investors.
Holland Collection
The Holland Collection at the MIT Entrepreneurship Center consists of annual reports of the ARD and CED, documenting the founding of the first modern venture capital company, American Research and Development (ARD) in 1946.
Dan Holland is a seasoned venture capitalist with over 30 years of experience. During his career, Mr. Holland has been involved with investments in over 125 companies across a variety of industries in various capacities including taking companies public, managing explosive growth, and salvaging troubled situations. He is a past President of the New England Venture Capital Association and a recognized industry figure. He maintains an ongoing affiliation with MIT serving as an Industrial Liaison Officer.
